Student life simplified – Moritz’s experience of life in Lund

Finding Lund — Almost by Surprise
Moritz, a student from Germany, didn’t have his heart set on Sweden from the beginning. “I just knew I wanted to go abroad for a semester,” he says. As he started looking into options, Lund University stood out again and again. “It seemed like a really cool place to live in— a real student city with a great reputation.” It wasn’t as far away as the U.S. or Japan, places he’d also considered. “Sweden felt familiar — like a neighbour — but still something new.”
A Magical First Impression
Arriving in January, Moritz stepped into a very wintry Lund. “It was really cold,” he laughs. “Even my room in Delphi felt chilly at first!” But the charm of the city quickly made up for it. “It had this Harry Potter vibe — the cathedral, the lights, and all the student welcome events.” The orientation days helped him meet new people and settle in, despite the frost.
Like many students, Moritz had secured a room through AF Bostäder — but it came completely unfurnished. “I started panicking a little. How would I find and transport everything alone, during arrival week?” That’s when he found Cohabit. “They brought everything on my first evening and picked it up again when I left. It was perfect.”
And even better — he could change things if needed. “At first, I asked for a regular chair. But a week later, I realized I’d prefer an office chair. I sent a quick message, and you just came by and swapped it. Super smooth”. Looking back, Moritz says, “Cohabit was a win for me, a win for the environment, and a win for the business. Honestly — a triple win.”
With the practical things sorted, Moritz embraced life in Sweden — discovering fika, visiting Malmö for ice hockey, exploring the botanical gardens and Folkparken, and even visiting a moose farm. “And I joined a gym for the first time — Gerdahallen! I loved it so much, I still go to the gym today.”
Moritz’s top advice for future students
Moritz’s main message? Don’t stress. Settling in takes time, but it all comes together. “Walk around, get lost a bit, meet people. The first days are hectic, but also full of magic.”
Here are a few of his tips for making the most of your start in Lund:
- Don’t wait too long to sort housing or furniture — things can get booked fast. Renting helped me focus on people, not problems.
- Say yes to welcome events — they’re not just fun, they’re how you meet your people.
- Get to know your neighbourhood — just walking around helped me feel more at home.
- Try something new — for me it was joining the gym, and I’m still going years later.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help — whether it’s about where to eat, how to get to Malmö, or swapping a chair — people are kind, and solutions show up.
My lifesaver for my semester abroad in Lund! Incredibly good and friendly service. The furniture was delivered on time on the day of my arrival and picked up again on my departure. All the furniture was very clean and in very good condition. The price was also more than fine! In my opinion, anyone who wants to study in Lund should definitely get in touch with Cohabit - Moritz
